Start

AUSTELL — A hit-and-run crash late Tuesday night left two residents injured on Cardell Road.

According to police, a white 2005 Honda Accord came to a halt in the southbound lane near 2135 Cardell Road due to mechanical issues. The driver, Deborah K. Wright, 63, remained in her vehicle with the driver’s door open and her legs extended outward.

Spotting the stopped car, nearby resident Keith D. Paine, 53, approached to offer assistance. During this act of goodwill, a black 2008 Lexus 460, believed to be operated by Anthony Sarfo, 43, of Austell, reportedly collided with the stationary Honda. The crash severely injured both Wright and Paine.

Puckett Ambulance Service quickly responded, takin Paine to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital and Wright to Grady Hospital.

According to the Cobb County Police, Paine was able to provide essential details about the suspect’s vehicle. This led Cobb County police to a residence on Malvin Drive in Austell, where they located a vehicle fitting the description.

Sarfo was taken into custody as a suspect. After receiving medical attention at Cobb Hospital, he was transported to the Cobb Adult Detention Center.

Officials continue their investigations into the crash. They urge anyone with pertinent information to reach out to investigators at 770-499-3987.
