ALBANY — Antwan Jamell Smith, 32, has been arrested following the shooting of 34-year-old Brianna Mitchell on August 3. The incident, which took place on E. Society Avenue, also resulted in injuries to 40-year-old Shenetta Holmes.

Mitchell died away from her injuries at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Holmes is recovering.

Information pointing to Smith’s involvement in the incident led authorities to a residence on the 1600 block of Gardner Drive. The subsequent search resulted in the seizure of three firearms and two ounces of marijuana.

Currently, Smith is being held at Dougherty County Jail on active probation violation warrants. Police say additional charges related to the shooting may be forthcoming.

Authorities are now investigating whether the seized firearms are connected to other cases in Albany. As the probe continues, residents with information on this or other cases are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 229-436-TIPS or the local investigator at 229-431-2100.
