LAWRENCEVILLE — A tragic hit and run incident has claimed the life of a 36-year-old woman on Buford Drive at Azalea Drive.
The victim has been identified as Shantta Monette from Norcross.
According to preliminary reports, Monette was walking northbound on Buford Drive between Russell Road and Old Peachtree Road on the evening of the accident. Police say she was possibly accompanied by two other individuals who were using their cellphones as makeshift flashlights.
Earlier surveillance footage captured Monette leaving a nearby gas station approximately two hours prior to the accident. Gwinnett County Police are urging anyone who may have been in the area between 9:27 p.m. and 9:36 p.m., or who may have witnessed the incident, to come forward.
The GCPD Accident Investigation Unit is working diligently to gather evidence and process the scene. Detectives can be reached at 678-442-5653 for anyone with information related to the case.
