Come August 1, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation will have a new captain steering the ship. Chris Hosey, with a vast 35-year career in law enforcement, has been appointed the new director by Gov. Brian Kemp.
Hosey, who’s journey kicked off as a Narcotics Agent with the Local Violators Squad in 1987, has included serving in multiple capacities, contributing to diverse operations across Georgia before climbing up to his current position as Assistant Director of the Bureau’s Investigative Division.
Wearing the hat of Assistant Special Agent in 2001, Hosey led a multijurisdictional drug task force and spearheaded the creation of the bureau’s first-ever state/local regional drug enforcement office.
Fast forward to 2012, Hosey donned the role of an Inspector, overseeing drug operations, several general investigative offices, and the Bureau’s Training Unit. In 2020, then Director Vic Reynolds identified his potential and appointed Hosey as the Deputy Director of Investigations.
A proud alumnus of Georgia Southwestern State University and Columbus State University, Hosey’s academic accolades include a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in public administration. He also has the distinction of being a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
With his vast experience and deep-rooted understanding of Georgia’s law enforcement dynamics, Hosey’s leadership is expected to chart a progressive course for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Hosey replaces Mike Register, who left the post after less than one year to return to his old post in Cobb County.
