A Marietta man who was missing for nearly three weeks was found dead in a small pond in Roswell Thursday.

The Roswell police department confirmed Thursday that 64-year-old Hussein Esmail had been found dead in east Roswell.

Roswell Police Officers spoke with Esmail twice the day he went missing, the last time around 9 p.m. near Riverside Road and Old Alabama Road. Both times, police said Esmail was familiar with his current location and intended destination, and requested to walk home by himself.

According to the police department, officers had Esmail medically evaluated by EMTs who confirmed he was oriented to time, place, and location.

Police say officers attempted to reach family members to provide additional information but could not. Esmail was then released from the scene, as there was no legal justification to hold him.

Esmail lived in Marietta on Ruby Street, and was known to hitchhike to seek a ride home.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine Esmail’s cause and manner of death. However, police say there are no indications of any suspicious or criminal activity.
