62-year-old woman killed in Bibb County crash

A fatal collision claimed the life of one woman and resulted in the hospitalization of her passenger and another driver.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal traffic collision, involving two vehicles, that occurred on Martin Luther King Blvd. near its intersection with Pine Street.

The collision was called into the Macon-Bibb 911 Center at around 12:26 a.m.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, a driver of a Nissan Rogue that was traveling north on Martin Luther King Blvd. ,started to slow down for upcoming traffic. A second vehicle  a Kia Soul also traveling north  behind the Nissan and  did not slow down.

Authorities say the  Kia collided into the back of the Nissan causing the Nissan to roll over. The driver of the  Nissan was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

The female driver of the Kia and her male passenger were  also transported to the hospital by ambulance for treatment. The driver of the  Kia, 62-year-old Angie Smith, was pronounced dead at the hospital by Coroner Luanne Stone.

This fatal collision is under investigation. Anyone with information in reference to this collision is urged to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500  and ask to speak with a Fatality Investigator.
