Coronavirus Update: Cobb County hospitals ‘critically low’ on ICU beds

The Director of Cobb-Douglas Public Health Dr. Janet Memark recently gave an update on the spread of coronavirus in Cobb and it is not good.

Memark says the hospital system is feeling the impact of the county’s COVID-19 spike. According to Memark, the county is facing a critically low number of critical care beds and may only have one bed available in the county.

The county has also seen a 20% increase in COVID-19 related hospitalizations.

Cobb County has reported 487 coronavirus deaths.

As of Thursday,, Cobb County is averaging 170 new confirmed cases of coronavirus per day up from 102 a month ago. Cobb has the third-highest number of coronavirus in the state, with a total of 24,751 cases since the pandemic began.

Statewide 8,569 people have died from coronavirus and an additional 533 people were listed as probable deaths from the virus.
