A bizarre armed robbery at a Georgia convenience store last week involved an unusual response to a request for identification and a wardrobe change.

Here is how the events played out, according to the Gwinnett County Police:

Last week, a man walked into a convenience store in Gwinnett County’s Rockbridge community and asks for a pack of cigarettes. When the store clerk asks for his ID, the man said he did not have it and walked out of the store. He was wearing a white t-shirt at the time.

Ten minutes later, the same man returns wearing a red hat with floppy ears. He tells the clerk “I’m ready now,” brandishes a gun and instructs the clerk to empty the cash register into a black bag he has provided her. He tells the clerk multiple times to “Hurry up” and threatens to “blast” him.

After she finishes emptying the cash register into the bag, the suspect quickly left. He did not take any cigarettes.

Police are searching for the suspect and ask that anyone who recognizes the man contact contact detectives at 770-513-5300. To remain anonymous, tipsters should contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477) or visit www.crimestoppersatlanta.org.  Crime Stoppers tipsters can receive up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. The case number is 18-048536.
