Dangerous rip currents are expected along Georgia’s coast from 6 AM through late Friday night.

What’s Happening: The warning covers Coastal Glynn and Coastal Camden counties. Rip currents are fast-moving channels of water that pull swimmers away from shore and into deeper water, even strong ones.

What’s Important: The warning is in effect all day Friday and runs through late tonight.

How This Affects Real People: Anyone heading to the beach Friday should swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float — do not swim against it. If you can, swim sideways, parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot break free, face the shore and call or wave for help.

The Path Forward: The warning expires late tonight. Beachgoers should check for updated forecasts before entering the water Saturday.
