A Code Orange air quality alert is in effect Monday across much of metro Atlanta and north Georgia. Outdoor air is expected to be unhealthy for some residents.
Areas covered: The alert includes Barrow, Bartow, Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, Dawson, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Newton, Paulding, Pike, Rockdale, Spalding and Walton counties, along with north and south Fulton County.
Who is affected: Children, residents sensitive to ozone and those with heart or lung disease face the greatest risk.
What this means for you: Those residents should limit long periods of hard outdoor activity during the late afternoon and early evening, when ozone levels are highest.
