Marietta Police seeking witnesses to morning motorcycle crash

The Marietta Police Department is investigating a serious injury crash that occurred at 9:19 a.m. today at the intersection of Fairground Street and South Marietta Parkway, and they need the public's help determining what happened.

The Marietta Police Department is investigating a serious injury crash that occurred at 9:19 a.m. today at the intersection of Fairground Street and South Marietta Parkway, and they need the public’s help determining what happened.

According to the Police Department, the preliminary on-scene investigation revealed that a 2002 Acura MDX operated by 66-year-old Gwenetta Smith of Mableton was attempting to turn left onto Fairground Street from South Marietta Parkway. A 1983 Honda Aspencade motorcycle operated by 56-year-old Joey Dobbs of Woodstock, was traveling southbound on Fairground Street.

It is unknown at this time which driver had the right of way, and the crash remains under investigation. Dobbs was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with life threatening injuries. Smith, who was not injured in the accident, was interviewed at the scene by STEP Investigators and released.

Charges have not yet been filed since police do not know who had the right of way and are waiting for witnesses to come forward.
