A collision involving three vehicles on I-285 northbound near the I-75 merge sent four people to the hospital early Sunday morning, including one woman fighting for her life.

Why It Matters: The crash shut down lanes during early morning hours on one of metro Atlanta’s busiest highway interchanges, and investigators still don’t know what caused the initial collision.

🚗 What Happened: A 38-year-old woman from Marietta driving a black 2013 Dodge Avenger collided with a gold 2006 GMC Envoy in the far-right lane just after 4 a.m. Both vehicles lost control. The Dodge spun into another lane and struck a blue 2025 Hyundai Kona carrying two people from Canton.

All three vehicles ended up on the northbound embankment.

The woman driving the Dodge was rushed to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Three others, including a 37-year-old woman driving the GMC, a 25-year-old man driving the Hyundai, and his 19-year-old passenger, were treated for minor injuries at the same hospital.

🔍 Still Unknown: Cobb police have not determined what caused the Dodge to hit the GMC in the first place. The investigation remains open.

The Sources: Cobb County Police Department
