A tragic collision on I-75 southbound in Cobb County early Saturday morning resulted in the death of a woman and left another seriously injured. The crash occurred around 2:27 a.m. on August 24 just north of Delk Road in Marietta.

The Details: The crash involved a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia truck towing two trailers, driven by 46-year-old LaForest Williamson from Columbia, South Carolina. The Freightliner was traveling in the fourth lane from the left when it slowed due to traffic. A blue 2009 Nissan Altima, driven by a 21-year-old from Stone Mountain, was following behind the truck.

According to police, the Nissan collided with the rear of the second trailer, causing the Nissan to spin counterclockwise and come to a stop straddling the fourth and fifth lanes. The driver of the Nissan sustained serious injuries and was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment. Her passenger, a 28-year-old Jonesboro resident died from her injuries.
