Bobcat Fever: If you live in middle Georgia, bring your cats inside

Experts at the University of Georgia are urging cat owners across the state to proactively protect their pets as cases of cytauxzoonosis, or bobcat fever, an often fatal tick-borne disease, are spiking in middle Georgia. Five counties in particular have seen a significant increase in cases of cytauxzoonosis, caused by a protozoa, which has a high mortality rate if not diagnosed in the earliest stages, said Nancy Hinkle, UGA Extension veterinary entomologist. Baldwin High School alum Tasha Butts has been promoted to associate head coach for the Georgia Tech women's basketball team. A native of Milledgeville, Butts attended Baldwin High School where she was a consensus All-American and Gatorade Player of the year. Her high school jersey No. 23 was retired in December 2000. MILLEDGEVILLE -- Two jailers at the Baldwin County Detention Center have been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting an inmate. Water main break closes schools in Baldwin County

Baldwin County has closed all of its public schools today after a water main break has made conditions unsafe for students. The water main break is described as major and is in the area of Blandy Road. The break is a feeder line that provides water to most of the schools in the area. Students will be learning remotely and all staff will also be working virtually. School officials say school is expected to continue as normal Friday, December 18, unless conditions from the water main break deem it unsafe to do so.
