Here’s what you need to know today.

Headlines:

  • The expression “Don’t mess with Texas” didn’t deter the Supreme Court from rejecting a lawsuit filed by Texas that attempted to overturn the election results in several swing states in an attempt to hand the election to Donald Trump. The court, three of whom were Trump appointees, dismissed the case.
  • Remember the mother who jumped out of her car with her baby during a kidnapping attempt earlier this year? Police in Gwinnett County say they have arrested a suspect in the kidnapping case.
  • Coronavirus cases are spiking throughout the state. In Floyd County, leaders are asking residents to be heroes themselves to help the medical workers who have been heroes to so many. Here’s how you can be a hero.
  • Add DeKalb County Sheriff Melody Maddox to the list of newly elected sheriffs who have tested positive for coronavirus after a training event attended by 36 sheriffs-elect in Georgia.
  • Sad news for the city of Clarkston. The city’s former mayor, Lee Swaney, has died.

Coronavirus Update:

Grim news on coronavirus in Georgia — according to the Georgia Department of Public Health, more than 10,000 Georgians have now died from the virus. The state has had 9,175 confirmed deaths from COVID-19 and 856 probably deaths from it. 52 people in Georgia died from the virus yesterday and 304 were hospitalized.
