An 80-year-old Kennesaw woman lost her life Monday morning after being struck by an SUV while walking along Cobb Parkway, according to police.

The Cobb County Police are investigating the fatal collision that occurred at approximately 5:13 a.m. on September 8 at the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Crater Lake Drive in Kennesaw.

What happened

Police said Mildred Hughes was walking south on Cobb Parkway when a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by a 46-year-old Kennesaw man, struck her.

After the collision, the driver brought his vehicle to a controlled stop at 1975 Cobb Parkway. Hughes was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office. Police confirmed that her family has been notified.

The crash occurred during pre-dawn hours when visibility is typically limited, though authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the collision.

Investigation continues
