In an event that might redefine petty theft, the Albany Police Department finds itself in the unusual position of seeking assistance to catch a Valentine’s Day bandit. Yes, you read that right. It seems Cupid’s arrow has missed its mark, leading one individual down a path not of love, but of larceny.
The incident, which unfolded around 6 p.m. on February 12, involved the theft of a Valentine’s Day basket from an address on Slappey Blvd.
The suspect, whose romantic escapades now include a brush with the law, was last seen making a less-than-dramatic getaway in a black Camry. Complicating the plot, he was not alone; three other individuals were in the car, perhaps accomplices in this heartless heist or merely unwitting participants in a misguided adventure.
The Albany Police Department, not typically in the business of chasing down stolen tokens of affection, has issued a plea for the public’s assistance. They’re asking anyone with information on the suspect, who remains as elusive as a good Valentine’s Day reservation, to come forward.
Those in the know are encouraged to dial 229-431-2100, to help the police provide the criminal with some new Valentine’s Day jewelry as part of cuffing season.
