Georgia’s elected officials and political leaders have taken to Twitter in the last two days to offer public statements about the mass school shooting in Parkland, Florida. Some called for action and more gun control, while others offered condolences, thoughts and prayers. Here is what your elected representatives had to say about this tragedy:
The scale of loss in this mass shooting can be measured in lives taken, dreams unrealized, families shattered by sorrow. The opportunity for America to protect lives from gun violence is clear. Let us pray and act swiftly, grieve and fix our broken laws. https://t.co/miuIeRYfmN

.@SpeakerRyan Mr. Speaker, the time for action is now. We know the facts. There are too many guns. How many more children must die? How many more students? How many more teachers? People who are not willing to lead should get out of the way.

The Florida shooting suspect made it out alive although he was armed. Funny how that works out depending on certain features. 🤔

Prayers for those impacted by the mass murder in Florida. May our federal and state officials do more than they usually do. We’ve had 18 school shootings since January 1, more than the rest of the world combined.

I think metal detectors would be approved before any other policy proposals.
There are actions that can be taken to address gun violence but those actions require political will.
It’s all incredibly sad. https://t.co/FDlpJVqmjP

arrived home from a long day at the Capitol in Atlanta.
My 11 yr old son immediately asked, “Did you hear about the latest school shooting?”
I am horrified to hear these words—again. My heart grieves for the families in Florida.
