FAIRBURN — An administrative aide at the Fairburn Police Department has died from the coronavirus.
The department announced the death of Cheryl Catron, which occurred Friday night, on its Facebook page today. In the post, Chief of Police Stoney Mathis described Catron as “someone that worked tirelessly to keep us up and running.”
According to the police department, Catron fell ill last week and left work Wednesday not feeling well. She was hospitalized Thursday and died Friday night. While at the hospital, a test was done for COVID-19 and the results were positive for the virus.
As a precaution, the lobby and administrative offices of the Fairburn Police Department will remain closed and several staff members who had contact with Catron are under quarantine.
