As of Thursday’s noon status update from the Georgia Department of Public Health, coronavirus cases in Dougherty County have surged past every county in Georgia except Fulton County, which is Georgia’s most populated county.

Dougherty County now has 156 confirmed cases of coronavirus. DeKalb County has 129 cases and Cobb County has 115. Fulton County still leads with 211 cases.

Coronavirus spread rapidly through Dougherty County after two highly attended funerals in the Albany area. Those cases have made Phoebe Putney hospital in Albany Georgia’s hardest hit hospital.

Georgia has a total of 1,525 cases and 48 deaths. About 31% of those who have confirmed cases have been hospitalized. Georgia’s total number of hospitalized coronavirus patients is 473.

So far, 8,926 tests have been processed statewide.
