Georgia reported a significant increase in coronavirus cases Monday. The Georgia Department of Public Health posted a notice on its website on the noon update explaining that the increase “is in part reflective of improvement in electronic reporting efficiency from commercial laboratories.” The department also noted that the reports often have sparse data, so some details may change.
The number of cases of coronavirus in Georgia has risen to 772, up from 620 Sunday evening. The number of deaths from the virus remains at 25, bringing the state’s death rate from coronavirus to 3.24%.
The trend of seeing the virus spread among younger Georgians has continued, with 59% of positive tests being in the 18 to 59 age group. Those 60 and older, long thought to be the primary at-risk group, account for 36% of Georgia’s cases. A total of 5,069 tests have been processed.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp will be holding a press conference today at 5 p.m. to address the spread of the virus in Georgia.
