Another student in Cherokee County has tested positive for coronavirus during the school district’s first week of school.

In a letter sent to parents Thursday, Holly Springs Elementary School STEM Academy principal Amanda Schoeniger confirmed that a third grader at the school had tested positive for COVID-19.

Students who came in close contact with the student who tested positive have been notified and quarantined for 14-days, however the class will continue meeting in person.

Today was the fourth day of school in Cherokee County and five students have tested positive for coronavirus this week.

Cherokee now has confirmed cases at Holly Springs Elementary STEM Academy, Hasty Elementary School, Dean Rusk Middle School, R.M. Moore Elementary School and Sixes Elementary School.

As of Thursday, Cherokee County had 3,155 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 58 deaths. According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, there have been 316 COVID-19 hospitalizations in Cherokee.
