Dr. Malinda Cobb is stepping into a new leadership role as interim superintendent of the Richmond County School System. Cobb steps into the role after more than 20 years of service in the district, earning recognition as a dedicated leader and educator.
Cobb officially begins her duties today.
What’s Happening: Cobb will lead the district during its transition period. She expressed gratitude for the board’s confidence in her ability to steer the system forward.
“As we enter the new year, my focus will remain on ensuring stability, supporting our educators and staff, and maintaining the high standards of excellence we hold for our students and community,” Cobb said.
Who Is Malinda Cobb?: Cobb has been with the Richmond County School System for more than 20 years. She started as a teacher at T.W. Josey Comprehensive High School, where she was named Teacher of the Year. She later served as principal at Goshen Elementary School and the Academy of Richmond County before moving into district leadership.
For the last three years, she has worked as associate superintendent of academic services. In that role, she oversaw teaching and learning programs, accountability, federal programs, and Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education. Her department also managed information technology, teacher development, and community partnerships.
Why It Matters: Cobb’s long history with the district and leadership experience provide continuity during a time of change. Her focus will be on maintaining stability and keeping the district on track academically.
Education and Credentials: Cobb earned a doctorate from Georgia Southern University. She also holds a specialist degree from Augusta State University, a master’s degree from Georgia State University, and a bachelor’s degree from Newberry College in South Carolina.
