Dunwoody residents can celebrate Juneteenth in a unique way this June with the special presentation of a StoryWalk by Dunwoody Parks and Recreation.

Two locations, near the playground at Brook Run Park and at the Dunwoody Nature Center, will display the children’s book “A Flag for Juneteenth” by Kim Taylor. The book shares the story of the celebration of the first Juneteenth from the perspective of a young girl.

Juneteenth marks the day when freedom finally came to the last of the enslaved people in the South on June 19, 1865. Celebrated for generations, it became a federal holiday, observed on the 19th of June, in 2021.

“We are thrilled to continue to use art and culture to celebrate our diversity,” said Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch. “To educate our residents and emphasize the importance of this holiday, we have selected A Flag for Juneteenth to share in two visible locations in Dunwoody.”
