Late Saturday night, Thomson residents faced a violent tragedy when a man was found dead and a woman injured in a shooting. Steveance Tate, 32, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the unnamed woman was later released from an Augusta hospital after treatment.
According to the GBI, at about 11 p.m., McDuffie County 911 received a call reporting gunshots at a residence on the 800 block of A Street. Officers from the Thomson Police Department arrived shortly after and discovered Tate’s body.
The woman was then taken to the hospital in Augusta.
According to preliminary information, both victims were sitting in a car outside the residence when an unknown assailant approached and opened fire.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now involved, lending its resources to local authorities. The GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur is scheduled to conduct an autopsy on Tate.
The investigation remains ongoing, with no arrests made at this point.
