Snellville Man Charged After Police Shooting: What We Know

Edwin Mendez, 32, of Snellville, has been charged following a police shooting late last night on the 3600 block of Holland Drive. Charges include aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, reckless conduct, and shooting a firearm within 50 yards of a public roadway.

What Happened:

• Around 11:30 p.m., police responded to a 911 call reporting gunshots and screams at a residence on Holland Drive.

• Officers heard arguing from the house upon arrival.

• As officers prepared to approach, Mendez exited the house armed with a handgun and allegedly pointed it at a uniformed officer.

• The officer fired once, hitting Mendez.

Aftermath:

• Officers secured the firearm and provided first aid.

• Mendez was transported to a hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

• The Gwinnett County Police Department’s Deadly Force Investigation Team is investigating the shooting.
