Police search for suspect in Macon carjacking

The Bibb County Sheriff's office is searching for a man police say attempted a carjacking and later assaulted an employee at a veterinarians office, took her car keys and stole her car.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s office is searching for a man police say attempted a carjacking and later assaulted an employee at a veterinarians office, took her car keys and stole her car.

Police say the whole incident began on the 900 block of Patterson Street, near Napier Avenue. The incident occurred shortly before noon Friday. The man was first seen fighting with a female in an older model, black Mercedes Benz. Police say the man got out of the vehicle and walked over to the passenger side and pulled the female out of the vehicle. During the scuffle, the vehicle rolled backwards and over the female victim.

According to police, the suspect then jumped in front of a passing Honda Accord and attempted to take the vehicle from a female driver, but was unsuccessful. The suspect fled the area and ran towards PioNono Avenue.

The 911 center was notified of the incident and immediately dispatched patrol deputies to the scene. A look-out was given over the Sheriff’s radio for a white male, wearing a gray colored sweatshirt and sweat pants. The suspect was also wearing a khaki colored hat.

Deputies arrived on scene and met with the victim who was originally involved in the argument, identified as 26-year-old Ashley Day of Macon and the victim of the attempted carjacking. Day was transported to the hospital where she is listed to be in stable condition. The victim of the attempted carjacking was unharmed.

While on the scene, deputy’s received call from the 911 center for a report of a carjacking that just occurred at the Hudspeth Animal hospital, located on Pionono Avenue, near Roff Avenue. This incident occurred at around 12:12p.m.

According to police, a man fitting the same description as the suspect that was involved in the Patterson Street incident approached a female employee at the animal hospital and asked for a ride. When the employee refused, the suspect assaulted the employee and took her car keys.

Police say the suspect sped off, heading towards Roff Avenue in a 2012 red Chevrolet Cruze. The vehicle had a dog cage in the back and a bumper sticker that read, “My Therapist Has a Wet Nose.” The vehicle has a New York tag with the number FYB7642. The female victim in the incident at the vets office had minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital.

Bibb County Sheriff’s Patrolmen later identified the suspect as 43-year-old Jason Emerson Connell of Macon. He is described as a white male, around 5 feet 9 inches in height and weighing about 209 pounds.

Police are asking that anyone with information in reference to the whereabouts of Jason Emerson Connell or who  has any information about these incidents to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office or the Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68-CRIME.
