Fernando Carr, a detainee at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center with a documented heart condition and a reported drug addiction, died Monday, November 13, after experiencing severe chest pains and seizures while in custody.
The information about his heart condition and drug addiction was provided by the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office.
Carr was booked into the detention center on November 1. On November 13, he was urgently attended to by medical staff at the detention center’s infirmary following the onset of chest pains and a seizure.
Despite initially responding to the treatment, Carr suffered another critical episode, during which life-saving techniques were administered.
He was subsequently transferred to Kennestone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following this incident, Sheriff Craig Owens has informed the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, and the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a standard internal investigation to verify compliance with protocols.
The Cobb County Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
