A high speed police chase that started in Alabama ended in Dade County thanks to the work of the Trenton Police Department and the Dade County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Dade County Sheriff’s Office, the agency was notified at of the chase at about 11:47 p.m. Sunday by two Alabama law enforcement agencies.
The Alabama authorities were in pursuit of a stolen Chrysler 300 that was stolen out of Illinois and agencies were approaching Dade County on Interstate 59 north bound at speeds exceeding 130 miles per hour.
Dade County deputies staged at Exit 4 and joined the pursuit thereafter. The Trenton Police Department units successfully staged and deployed spike strips at the nine mile marker north bound, disabling the front right tire of the suspect vehicle.
As the vehicle approached the 15 mile marker, it drove through the median and accessed 59 South Bound, driving the wrong way toward oncoming traffic.
A Dade County Sheriff’s unit then completed a successful pit maneuver disabling the suspect vehicle off the shoulder of the interstate.
Two were taken into custody without further incident nor injury. Sheriff Ray Cross said he extends his gratitude to the Trenton Police Department for their assistance; without their help, the pursuit would have continued at dangerous speeds.
“Many agencies came together and successfully apprehended this dangerous felon. I am very proud of my deputies and their skills to get the job done,” Cross said.
