A Hall County mother has been accused of faking her child’s illness in an attempt to collect disability payments on the child’s behalf.

According to the Associated Press, Teresa Lynne Roth forced her 5-year-old son take several unnecessary medications, had him on a feeding tube and in a wheelchair despite not having a diagnosed illness.

The investigation into the case began when the child was three and was seen by doctors at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Health officials became concerned about the child’s well-being and notified the Department of Family and Children’s Services.

The child was taken into DFCS custody in October and Roth was arrested Thursday and charged with child cruelty.
