A former jailer with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Jeffrey Sean Day, has been arrested and charged with aggravated battery, cruelty to inmates, and violation of oath of office.

The charges stem from an incident on July 28, in which Day, 39, of Monroe, allegedly physically assaulted a handcuffed inmate, resulting in injuries that required medical attention.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation took Day into custody without incident after the Walton County Sheriff’s Office requested an investigation into the allegations. Day has been booked into the Walton County Jail.

The case will be forwarded to the Alcovy Judicial Circuit District Attorney for prosecution. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Walton County Sheriff’s Office or the GBI.
