CARROLLTON — A 52-year-old Carrollton man is sitting in the Carroll County Jail, charged with possessing child sexual abuse material after police received a tip last month pointing to activity inside city limits.
What happened: Alfred “Lee” Alloway was arrested July 23 and charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of children, which is the legal term for possessing or distributing material that depicts a minor in a sexually explicit way.
How it started: Carrollton police received a CyberTip on July 22 from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation indicating someone in Carrollton was suspected of having that kind of material. A detective trained in internet crimes against children opened an investigation the same day. Alloway was arrested the next morning.
What investigators found: Detectives seized digital devices from Alloway during the investigation. Those devices are now being examined by a forensics specialist at the Carrollton Police Department’s Digital Forensics Lab.
What comes next: The investigation is still active. More charges are possible depending on what examiners find on those devices. Alloway remains jailed in Carroll County.
What is a CyberTip: Technology companies are required by federal law to report suspected child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which then routes tips to law enforcement. The GBI passed this tip to Carrollton police.
