A 23-year-old man is fighting for his life after what began as a report of a traffic accident turned into an aggravated assault investigation early Tuesday morning.

Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 2300 block of Shurling Drive at 3:33 a.m. after receiving calls about a disabled vehicle that had struck a fire hydrant. What they discovered was far more serious than a simple collision.

Upon arrival, deputies found the young man suffering from a gunshot wound inside the vehicle. Paramedics quickly transported him to a local medical facility, where medical staff report he remains in critical but stable condition.

The investigation is still in its early stages, with authorities working to piece together the events that led to both the shooting and the subsequent crash. Officials haven’t released information about potential suspects or motives behind the attack.
