An urgent appeal for information has been issued by the Georgia State Patrol after an 88-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Mitchell County. Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the driver involved in the deadly crash that took place on Mount Olive Road on the evening of September 20, 2024.

The Details: The incident occurred around 6 p.m. when the elderly victim was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. According to the GSP’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team, the vehicle in question is believed to be a 1990s model Ford—possibly a Ranger, Bronco, or Explorer—or a late 1990s Chevrolet Silverado. The vehicle would have visible damage to the front passenger-side headlight area, which investigators say is a key detail in identifying the suspect’s car.

Whether you saw the crash happen, noticed a vehicle matching the description, or have heard something related to the incident, authorities stress that no detail is too small to be significant.
