30-year-old dies in Macon shooting. A bystander was also shot

A Sunday morning altercation in downtown Macon turned deadly when a man was fatally shot near the intersection of Martin Luther King Blvd. and Poplar Street. A second man, an apparent bystander, was also injured.

The victim, identified as 30-year-old Robert Evans, was transported to Atrium Health Navicent Hospital following the shooting but was later pronounced dead. Evans’ family has been notified of his passing.

According to reports, Evans had been involved in a physical dispute shortly before several gunshots were directed at him. Amid the chaos, a second man walking down the sidewalk was unintentionally struck by a bullet. He was taken to the hospital by private vehicle with a gunshot wound to the leg and is currently in stable condition.

Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, who responded to the early morning shooting, urges anyone with pertinent information to come forward to aid the ongoing investigation.
