13-year-old Reunited With Her Family: The story of a Wisconsin girl who was reunited with her family captivated the hearts of Georgians this week. Several news websites reported the story of 14-year-old Jayme Cross among their most read articles this week. Cross’ parents were murdered and she was kidnapped and held hostage for 88 days. Readers nationwide cheered when she was found and reunited with her family and Georgians were no different.

Power plants causing groundwater pollution: Understandably, a story about coal ash pollutants, including arsenic, being found in the ground water at 11 Georgia power plants would garner a lot of attention from residents who are serviced by those power plants. Electric Cowboy turns out the lights: Popular Kennesaw night club, the Electric Cowboy announced it will be turning out the lights at its current location for the last time on Jan. 26. According to the Marietta Daily Journal, the nightclub plans to re-open at another location in Kennesaw soon.

UGA wants new football facilities: In Athens, one of the most read stories was — you guessed it — about Georgia Football. The Bulldogs are looking to expand their existing football facilities and new details about that upgrade emerged this week. According to the Athens Banner-Herald, the upgrade will include more office space and an expanded weight room.

Man shoots wife in front of daughter: The tragic story of a man who walked into a nail salon and shot his ex-wife execution-style in front of her daughter in Duluth also made the list of top stories this week. The man was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and later died at the hospital.

Georgia elementary school student becomes a celebrity: People love to read about local celebrities, especially when that celebrity is a child. A 7-year-old from Evans, Georgia made headlines after an appearance on the Ellen show. Roman McConn has a heart for animals and was on the popular daytime show for his efforts at rescuing animals.

Six Flags is having a job fair: News about Six Flags always draws attention, particularly in metro Atlanta. Several news websites reported on Six Flags’ newest call for jobs, and many of those sites also listed the story among their most read.
