Around Georgia: Fallen officer honored, cookout with council canceled

GBI employees and several other law enforcement agencies lined up outside GBI headquarters to pay respects to fallen Fairburn Police Department Sergeant Jean-Harold Louis Astree.

Astree died in a car crash Thursday morning.

North Shore water main replacement begins August 18 in DeKalb

Efforts to improve water service capacity throughout DeKalb County will continue on Thursday, Aug. 18, with the launch of the North Shore Road Water Main Replacement Project.

Crews will replace 11,200 linear feet of crumbling water lines with new 8-inch-diameter, ductile-iron water lines along North Shore Road. This line repair project is expected to last approximately 4 months from August 2022 to December 2022, barring any weather delays.


Mableton Cityhood

The first Mableton Cityhood community forum is set for Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 6:30 pm.

It will be at the Cobb County Police Academy – 2435 East-West Connector, Austell.

Norcross City Council members were planning to have a big cookout this afternoon at Thrasher Park.

Unfortunately, Georgia’s unpredictable — and at times obscene — weather patterns had other plans.

The cookout has been canceled today due to potentially threatening weather conditions.
