The News: The Cobb County Police Department was involved in a police shooting on Wednesday night. According to preliminary investigation, an officer shot the driver of a car during a traffic stop on I-75 South near Delk Road.

The News: The Cobb County Police Department was involved in a police shooting on Wednesday night. According to preliminary investigation, an officer shot the driver of a car during a traffic stop on I-75 South near Delk Road.

What We Know: The incident occurred at around 10:22 p.m. when the officers conducted a traffic stop on I-75 South near Delk Road. According to officers, the driver, Kenny Ezekiel, of Atlanta, was found to be in possession of a firearm.

According to the Cobb County Police Department, as the officer approached the Ezekiel made a movement towards the firearm, and the officer gave verbal commands to stop, but the suspect allegedly did not respond to the officer’s commands.

The officer then shot Ezekiel.

According to the GBI, immediately following the shooting, Ezekiel threw his gun out of the driver’s side window, and it landed on the Interstate. 

Arriving officers provided first aid to the driver before transporting him to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.

What’s Next?: The investigation into the police shooting incident has been turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
