Video: Georgia Guidestones monument destroyed after explosion

The GBI and Elbert County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an explosion that destroyed the Georgia Guidestones near Elberton.
The Georgia Guidestones monument was destroyed by an explosive device last week. While part of the Guidestones were destroyed in the blast, state officials later took down the entire monument for safety reasons.

A monument shrouded in mystery in Elbert County that appeared in 1980 and has unknown origins has been destroyed.

The GBI and Elbert County Sheriff’s Office are investigating an explosion that destroyed the Georgia Guidestones near Elberton.

The preliminary information indicates that unknown individuals detonated an explosive device at around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6. Elbert County Sheriff’s Office personnel responded to discover the explosion destroyed a large portion of the structure. The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office asked the GBI to assist with the investigation. GBI EOD are on scene conducting their examination of the site.

While only a portion of the monument was destroyed in the blast, the entire structure has now been demolished for safety reasons.

The GBI has released two surveillance videos related to the blast, the first one is of the explosion itself and the second video shows a car escaping the scene. You can view both videos below.

The Georgia Guidestones have been called America’s Stonehenge. The monument contains a 10-part message about the conservation of humankind in several languages. The origin of the monument and the identity of the organization that erected it is unknown. The monument was constructed in 1980.
