A shallow wedge of cool, cloudy air is spreading across North Georgia today, with temperatures expected to rebound by midweek, according to the National Weather Service in Atlanta.
What’s Happening: High pressure over the Mid-Atlantic is pushing a band of cool, cloudy air into North Georgia. A “wedge” is a shallow layer of cold air that gets pushed along the ground by high pressure, often trapping clouds and cooler temperatures beneath it.
What’s Important: Temperatures vary widely depending on location. Areas inside the wedge will see highs in the 50s to low 60s Tuesday, while areas outside it will reach the 70s.
By the Numbers: High temperature forecasts for Tuesday, March 3:
- Atlanta: 63°F
- Athens: 62°F
- Columbus: 71°F
- Macon: 73°F
The Path Forward: Warmer air is forecast to move back into the region Wednesday. Atlanta is expected to reach 78°F, Athens 77°F, Columbus 80°F, and Macon 80°F.
