Brookhaven is ushering in the holiday season with its annual Light Up Brookhaven event and the debut of a synthetic ice-skating rink in Brookhaven Park. The festivities will feature family-friendly activities, live entertainment, and new attractions aimed at fostering community spirit.
The Light Up Brookhaven celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Blackburn Park, at 3493 Ashford Dunwoody Road. Highlights include holiday-themed crafts, live music, giveaways, and the lighting of the city’s 40-foot Christmas tree. Santa Claus is set to make a dramatic entrance via helicopter, courtesy of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and Rabbi Brian Glusman will return to light the city’s Hanukkah menorah and dreidel.
For children, the evening offers train rides, a petting zoo, and winter-themed bounce houses, while visitors of all ages can enjoy caroling performances by local school groups and photo opportunities with Santa and his live reindeer. Food and beverage trucks will be available, along with hot chocolate sold by Girl Scouts as a fundraising initiative.
The festivities continue on Saturday, Dec. 7, at noon with the opening of “Rudolph’s Rink” in Brookhaven Park, located at 4158 Peachtree Road. The synthetic ice rink will operate Fridays through Sundays until Jan. 5. Free 45-minute skating sessions will be available with online registration, and limited walk-up slots will be offered.
The rink serves as the centerpiece for “Holidays in the ’Haven,” a series of events in Brookhaven Park that includes family-friendly activities such as movie screenings, arts and crafts in “Santa’s Village,” food trucks in “Festive Food Lane,” and a lawn game area dubbed “Grinch Games.”
“I’m excited to announce the return of Light Up Brookhaven, a beloved holiday tradition,” said Brookhaven Mayor John Park. “And enhancing our holiday celebration with an ice rink in a winter wonderland is just another part of what Brookhaven is about – bringing everyone together.”
