Jay-Lan Shane Broughton, 17, has been arrested and is now in custody at the Gwinnett County Jail, facing charges connected to a series of violent robberies in Buford. Broughton is charged with three counts of armed robbery, four counts of aggravated assault, and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies.

The Details: Broughton’s arrest follows a months-long investigation into an armed robbery that took place on May 24, 2024, near the 6000 block of Apple Grove Road. On that day, Gwinnett County Police responded to a 911 call and found two victims, one of whom had been robbed at gunpoint. According to police reports, Broughton and four accomplices stole items including jewelry, a debit card, air pods, and a license from one of the victims.

The investigation advanced when detectives linked a vehicle used in the robbery to Edmond Buggs, 17, of Lawrenceville, who had been arrested for a separate armed robbery. During questioning, Buggs admitted his involvement in the May 24 robbery and identified Broughton as the gunman. This identification was further confirmed by video surveillance footage from the scene.

In Context: Broughton had evaded capture for several months, with police warning he might still be armed with a black handgun. He was believed to be in the Gwinnett County area before being apprehended.

What’s Next?: Broughton is currently awaiting trial on multiple felony charges. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances of his arrest.
