ROSWELL — The historic Roswell Masonic Lodge, a landmark that has stood as a testament to the city’s rich history for generations, is set to undergo a transformation that will preserve its legacy while giving it new life.
After a unanimous vote by the Roswell City Council Monday night, the lodge will be preserved and repurposed as an open-air pavilion, becoming a centerpiece of the city’s Green Street activation plan.
The Masonic Lodge, located on Alpharetta Street, has long been recognized as an important part of the community’s heritage.
The newly approved plan will see the lodge integrated into a broader initiative to enhance downtown Roswell, with the construction of a parking deck nearby.
The city’s plan also includes settling a long-standing legal dispute over the property, which had been acquired through eminent domain for public use. The settlement, approved by the council for an amount not to exceed $3.95 million, paves the way for both the parking deck construction and the preservation of the lodge.
The Roswell Masonic Lodge’s new role as an open-air pavilion is not just a victory for preservationists but a forward-looking initiative that promises to keep the city’s history alive in a meaningful and functional way.
