After Fulton County’s provisional ballots were counted, Joe Biden’s lead over Donald Trump in Georgia has increased. Biden now leads the president by 7,248 votes.
So far, the state has counted just under 5 million votes. The high voter turnout shatters the record set in the 2016 election when about 4.1 million votes were cast.
While Biden’s margin has widened, the distance between Trump and Biden is still close enough for a recount if a candidate asks for it.
Georgia is not only a swing state in this election. At this point in electoral math, if Biden wins Georgia, he effectively blocks Trump’s chances of getting the 270 electoral votes needed to become president.
Biden is also up in Pennsylvania, which has 20 electoral votes. A win there would secure the presidency for Biden.
