In a historic first for the state of Georgia, Governor Brian Kemp appointed Lauren Curry as his new Chief of Staff, making her the first female to hold the position on a permanent basis in Georgia’s history.
Currently serving as Deputy Chief of Staff, Curry, will step into the role effective January 15.
Curry, brings extensive experience in public service and government affairs to the position. Prior to joining the Governor’s Office, Curry held several high-level positions within the state. She has served as Chief Operating Officer and Director of Government Affairs and Policy for Kemp, Deputy Director of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, Chief of Staff for the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, and Director of Public and Governmental Affairs at the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, among other positions.
Kemp also announced that current Director of Government Affairs and Policy, Brad Bohannon, will become Deputy Chief of Staff.

Bohannon is no stranger to government affairs and policy. Prior to his work with the Governor’s Office, Bohannon served in various roles within the state, including Vice President of Government Affairs at the Georgia Lottery and Chief of Staff to former Congressman Lynn Westmoreland. He also previously served in Government Relations with Georgia EMC.
In a statement, Governor Kemp expressed his gratitude for both Curry and Bohannon’s willingness to serve in their new roles.
The changes in the Governor’s Office come as Georgia prepares for a new year and a new regular session. The appointments of Curry and Bohannon to these key positions underscore Governor Kemp’s commitment to strong leadership and effective governance.
