At a time when the supply of toilet paper is limited for many Georgians, DeKalb County is reminding residents that flushing items other than toilet paper can have dire consequences to the sewer system.
The DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management is reminding citizens to keep items like paper towels, sanitizing wipes or “flushable” wipes out of the sewer system, as they can clog pipes and lead to sewer spills and costly repairs.
The coronavirus pandemic caused many residents to “stock up” on items like toilet paper and cleaning supplies over the course of several days prior to the state’s voluntary quarantine, making the supply of toilet paper scarce.
At the time of this writing Georgia has 485 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
