After a week of rocky weather, North and Central Georgia are under a freeze warning Halloween night and into Friday morning.

What does this mean for Trick-or-Treating? The current weather model shows the rain moving out by about 5 p.m., so kids should have no trouble acquiring candy. The temperature will drop into the 40s as Halloween festivities are wrapping up and the freeze will start at about 11 p.m.

The official freeze warning begins at 11 p.m. and ends at 10 a.m. Friday.

Sub-freezing temperatures in the lower 30s expected, with temperatures falling as low as the upper-20s in the higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service, frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Residents in the affected area are advised to take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

If you live in Habersham or Rabun Counties, the freeze warning starts a little earlier. Expect freezing temperatures at 8 p.m. tonight and extends until 10 a.m. Friday.
