ATLANTA — A 7-year-old girl is dead after a domestic dispute turned into an exchange of gunfire and the child was caught in the crossfire.

The shooting occurred at an apartment on Jackson Street at about 10:15 Saturday night.

The girl was shot at least one time, according to the Atlanta Police Department.

Police say there was a family gathering at the apartment. A suspect is not in custody and some family members left the apartment prior to police arrival.

“Any death is tragic, but when there is a child involved it really hits home,” said Deputy Police Chief Charles Hampton Jr.

The investigation is still active and police are asking anyone with information to call the Atlanta Police Department or Crimestoppers.
