DALLAS — A domestic dispute turned deadly in Dallas when Sheriff’s Dept. officials say a 77-year-old man opened fire on his wife, her son and her son’s girlfriend.
According to the Sheriff’s Dept., at about 5:45 p.m. Feb. 11 a 911 call was placed in reference a domestic dispute with shots fired on Wesleyan Way in Dallas in the Ivey Meadows subdivision.
When deputies arrived on scene they found three victims who had sustained gunshot wounds. Deputies detained the suspected shooter and began rendering aid to the victims. The victims were identified as 23-year-old Ebony Janel Copeland, 42-year-old Takiyah Weems and 21-year-old Amauri Ali Beavers.
The suspected shooter was identified as 77-year-old Earl Curtis Weems.
Detectives are actively investigating the root cause of the incident, but say they know that it was domestic related in nature.
According to Sheriff’s Dept. spokesperson Ashley Henson, Earl and Takiyah Weems are married and Amauri Beavers is the adult son of Takiyah Weems. Ebony Copeland is the girlfriend of Amauri Beavers.
Earl Weems was subsequently arrested and initially charged with Aggravated Assault. Detectives are still actively investigating this case and expect to file more charges in the coming days, Henson said.
As a result of his injuries from the gunshot wound, Amauri Beavers died at the hospital Feb. 11.
Ebony Copeland and Takiyah Weems were treated and released from the hospital later that day. Earl Weems is currently being held in the Paulding County Jail with no bond.
