LAWRENCEVILLE – The Gwinnett County Police Department is grieving the loss of one of its finest. K9 Officer Elsa, a Belgian Malinois who served with distinction, passed away on July 25 after a battle with a spinal illness.

Elsa joined the Gwinnett County Police Department in November 2016. Over her seven-year career, she was deployed on 545 calls, contributing to 51 patrol apprehensions, 87 narcotic apprehensions, and the recovery of 133 pieces of evidence.

In October 2023, Elsa retired due to her advancing age. Her first four years of service were alongside Sgt. Larsen, followed by three years with Cpl. Hylton. Elsa’s dedication to her duties remained unwavering until her retirement.

The department remembers Elsa not only for her remarkable skill in tracking down criminals and intercepting dangerous narcotics but also for her loyal companionship. Her absence will be deeply felt by her colleagues and the community she served.
